What is happening with nintendo wii's?

I recently ordered a nintendo wii for my two stepson's. All was fine then they rang me to let me know that they were cancelling order as they had no stock. I am gutted. Does anyone know how likely it is that stores will have sufficient stock for xmas? Why the hell has nintendo let this happen?
