Looking for career change. I'm 19 with machining and mechanical bg.?

I've wanted to work on engines for a long time and I finnaly decided that I don't want to work in gloomy repair shops for the rest of my life because despite what anyone says, you wont make a good living being a mechainic, unless you're working on boeing jets. so any suggestions?
